Day 1: Morning departure through the middle of the world stopping a few minutes for pictures and Pululahua Crater. Then we come down to the cloud forest stopping at the Alambi bird reserve. Where we will watch different species of hummingbirds such as: Andean Emerald, Purple-bibbed Whitetip, Empress Brilliant, White Necked Jacobin, Sparkling Violet-Ear, Brown Violet-Ear, Green Violet-Ear, Booted Racket-tail, Rufous Tailed, White-whiskered Hermit, Tawny Bellied Hermit, Western Emerald (E), Purple Throated Woodstar, and different species of tanagers, woodpeckers, thrushes , etc.
Then in 40 minutes, we will get to Mindo town located at 1400 m.a.s.l. In this valley we will have many choices: walk to the “Nambillo” waterfall (40 minutes), visit butterfly garden, orchid farm, canopy adventure (1 hour), tubing on the river, chocolate tour (1 hour), etc. Lunchtime at the local restaurant and we will rest in a local touristic hostel. Optional at night we can visit Mindo Lago to hear the concert of different species of frogs.
Day 2:
(Optional 1) Departure at 4 am in the morning from the hostel to the northwest of Pichincha arriving at approximately 2000 meters above sea level (6500 feet) to the “Paz de las Aves” refuge where we will observe unique species such as Andean Cock of the Rock, Giant Anpitta, Yellow Bellied Anpitta, Ochred Breasted Anpitta, Crimson Rumped Toucanet, Toucan Barbet, Golden-Headed Quetzal, Masked Trogon, Blue Winged Mountain-Tanager, Oranged Naped-Tanager, Black-Chinned Mountain-Tanager, and different hummingbird species.
After that, we will have a local breakfast.
(Optional 2) Departure at 9 am in the morning from the hostel to visit the bird reserve “San Tadeo” to observe different species of birds such as Lemon Rumped Tanager, Golden Tanager, Black-capped Tanager, Blue Gray Tanager, White Lined Tanager, Thick-billed Euphonia, Orange Bellied Euphonia, Buff Throated Saltator, Ecuadorian Thrush, Slate Throated Whitestar, Red Headed Barbet, etc.
(After Optional 1 or Optional 2)
Later we will drive for almost 1 hour to get The Love’s Waterfall a nice place for swimming, relaxing and have a direct connection with nature at 240 meters above sea level (800 feet).
Then we will have lunch in the restaurant in Rio Blanco at 1100 m.a.s.l. (3600 feet) where we will have a beautiful view of the river, birds and its surroundings.
After that, we will come back to Quito.
