Depart from the hotel to visit a local market where we will meet and taste local fruits such as granadilla (sweet granadilla), uvillas (golden berry), taxo (banana passionfruit), oritos (smaller type of banana), cocoa pod, tree tomato, etc. And we will visit all the different areas of the market where sausages, meats, chicken, and seafood are sold. We will also see the area where vegetables, dairy products, and medicinal plants are sold. Then we will continue to the beverage area to drink delicious natural juice based on local fruits such as: soursop, mango, alfalfa, coconut, blackberry, naranjilla, tamarind, orange, etc.
In this area we will see how people prepare typical dishes such as: chicken broth, yaguarlocro (potato soup with lamb tripe), beef leg broth, menudo (soup with pork tripe), encebollado (fish soup with onion and cassava), llapingachos (smashed potatoes), corvina frita (fried sea bass), ceviche, hornado (baked pork), fritada (fried pork), seco de pollo (stew chicken), etc.
Then we will go to learn how people make traditional sweets called “colaciones” based on toasted corn and panela “dog poop”, sweet and salty peanuts, sweet beans, nougat based on honey and candies based on sugarcane.
Next, we will go to taste the traditional “paila” (pan) ice creams tasting different flavors: soursop, taxo (banana passionfruit), naranjilla, blackberry, coffee, fig, etc.
Finally, we will go to taste a dish of Ecuadorian cuisine in a local restaurant.
And then return to the hotel.
