DAY 1:
Leave in the morning, we take the Avenue of the volcanoes watching almost 8 to 12 mountains and volcanoes surrounding Quito such as “Ruco Pichincha”, “Atacazo”, “Corazón”, “Ilinizas”, “Cayambe”, “Antisana”, “Sincholagua”, “Pasochoa”, “Rumiñahui” and others. In about an hour and a half, we reach Cotopaxi National Park entrance and we will have here a little break to see a little handicraft market and drink coca leaf tea, after that, we go up to the plain Limpiopungo to 3,845 m.a.s.l. (12600 feet). Where we can make a hike around the lagoon knowing the flora and avifauna. (Optional at the time is allowed) can go up to the parking 4,500 m.a.s.l. (14700 feet) From here you can hike about two hours round trip to reach the refuge José Rivas at 4,800 m.a.s.l. (15700 feet). After the activities, we will visit the “Mariscal Sucre” museum and visit a souvenir store.
After that, optional we will have lunchtime in one of the most historical Haciendas from the Andes “La Cienega” after lunch we will go up to the Páramo and we will visit an indigenous family where we will observe their clothes and customs, but the most important thing is that we are going to be with them in a typical indigenous house made of adobe and the ceiling covered with straw. We will be sharing with them a short moment talking, watching and learning from them, about their life, the animals (guinea pigs, lambs, quails, etc.)
After that, we will continue to Zumbahua and Quilotoa village at 3600 m.a.s.l. (11800 feet) here we will stay in a local touristic hotel.
DAY 2:
After breakfast, we will descend inside the crater almost 2 hours round trip or just walk around it. Prepare yourself to enjoy an unforgettable experience and we have an optional activity kayaking or paddle a boat in the lagoon. After the activities, we will have lunchtime in a local restaurant. Before to come back to Quito we will stop in the “Toachi” canyon to watch this amazing geological formation from the Andean Highlands. After that, will visit the town of Tigua, famous for its native paintings gallery.
Finally, we will return to Quito.
