Departure at 8 in the morning, passing the villages of Calderon; Guayllabamba to reach the archaeological ruins of Cochasqui located about 2 hours from Quito.
The Cochasquí Archaeological Park covers 83.9 hectares that house 15 truncated pyramids (9 of them with ramps) and 21 circular funerary mounds. In addition to these monuments, the Park includes a site museum with excellent samples of ceramics and other artifacts unearthed, which allows understanding more clearly the historical past of the complex.
The pyramids of Cochasquí were built between 1250 and 1550 d. C., although there is evidence that the area was occupied since the eighth century. The size of the pyramids is variable; the largest is more than 40 meters long and the smaller ones are less than 20 meters. The ramp of the pyramid 14 is the largest, at 210 meters in length. The circular mounds are typically about 30 meters in diameter and 3 meters in height.
To the south of the pyramid 5, pieces of ceramics, burners, and burials were found -not as luxurious as in the monuments- that account for a possible hamlet that settled in this place. The builders or caretakers of the pyramids lived there.
After the visit, we will go to Tabacundo to visit a rose plantation where we will see all the production process, selection, harvest of the different varieties of roses that Ecuador exports to the world.
After that, we go to a Local Restaurant for lunchtime in Guayllabamba Valley and return to Quito city.
