Day 1:
Departure from Quito at 8 a.m. through the avenue of the volcanoes to arrive at midday at the Páramos del Chimborazo in which we will see Vicuñas, camelids typical of the Andes, then we go up to the parking lot to make a hike to the refuge “Hermanos Carrel” at 4850 m.a.s.l. (15900 feet). The Chimborazo is the highest mountain in Ecuador and the highest point on the planet measured from the center of the earth.
After this we go down crossing the landscapes of the Andes passing through indigenous communities, agricultural areas to reach the city of Riobamba at 17h00 where we will stay at the Hacienda “Abraspungo”, from here with good weather you can observe volcanoes like the “Tungurahua” (5000 m.a.s.l.),”Altar”
Day 2:
Departure at 6 in the morning towards the village of Alausí which is located at 2350 m.a.s.l. (7700 feet), in this place in the station, we will take the 8:00 a. m. the train which will take us to the sector of the Devil’s Nose, being this route the most difficult to build at the beginning of the 20th century, in which many Jamaican workers lost their lives because of the complicated railway work.
After one hour we will make a stop at the Sibambe station where we will have a break for one hour and then return to the village of Alausí.
After that we head towards the Colta Lagoon and visit the Balbanera Church, being the first Catholic church in Ecuador built on Puruhá territory.
Then we will continue to the city of Riobamba where we will have time for lunch and then return to Quito at 18h00.
