Departure at 8 in the morning, we will head towards the cloud forest to reach the reserve of “Alambi”, the same one that is at 1500 m.a.s.l. (4900 feet) here we will observe different hummingbird species such as: Andean Emerald, Purple-bibbed Whitetip, Empress Brilliant, White-Necked Jacobin, Sparkling Violet-Ear, Brown Violet-Ear, Green Violet-Ear, Booted Racket-Tail, Rufous Tailed, White-Whiskered Hermit, Tawny Bellied Hermit, Western Emerald (E), Purple Throated Woodstar, and different species of tanagers, woodpeckers, thrushes , etc.
After that, we will go to the cloud forest to reach the town of Tulipe located at 1300 m.s.n.m. Place where we will visit the museum and ceremonial center of the Yumbo culture.
In the middle of the exuberant subtropical forest of the northwest of the province of Pichincha, on the shore of a crystal clear river that separates the parishes Nanegalito and Gualea, is the ceremonial temple and museum site Tulipe.
The complex, which shows the cultural evidence of the Yumbo people, comprises three hectares of land and is divided into two parts: the museum, which is a space for dissemination; and, on the outside, the pools or ceremonial center, which are the archaeological evidence.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The museum is open from Wednesday to Sunday. Another option is to visit a Coffee Farm.
Then we will drive for almost 40 minutes to get the Chirapi river, here we are going to do an easy hike of 30 minutes approx. walking along the river seeing the rocky formations of this Canyon the same ones that form natural pools of crystalline water in which it is possible to swim until arriving at the Waterfall of the “Gallo de la Peña”, a place for relaxing, meditation where one has a contact with the mother nature, the total time of walking/bath is 2 hours.
Optional: If you want to do a Medium-Level Hike, we can go to the “Santa Marta” Waterfalls located 10 minutes far from de Tulipe Museum, here we will descend for 25 minutes to reach the “Santa Marta” natural swimming pool and we will have time for relaxing and enjoy in the nature, after that we will go up for almost 40 minutes to get the entrance of this Hacienda.
After that we will go for our lunch in the “Mirador de Tulipe – Ecolodge” having an amazing view from the Cloud Forest.
Optional: We can go to visit the “La Victoriana” Hacienda to watch the Lek of the “Andean Cock-of-the-Rock” (Gallo de la Peña), colorful bird symbol in serious danger of extintion. Entrance Fee per person: $10 dollars.
Then we will return to Quito driving almost 2 hours.
